Abstract

Mamakiah is an activity to collect community contributions in the form of materials, usually carried out by students at Darul Ulum Islamic boarding school, Tanah Datar Regency.  The purpose of this study is to describe the phenomenon of Mamakiah activities carried out by students at the boarding school. This research is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. The subjects of this research were the teachers of the Darul Ulum boarding school. The data in this study were obtained through interviews. This research reveals that Mamakiah contributes to the continuation of the education of the students at Darul Ulum boarding school. In the implementation of Mamakiah activities, the Pakiah (students who perform Mamakiah activities) must carry out several provisions and procedures. The Pakiah must wear a peci, a long-sleeved batik shirt, and a cap. The Pakiah must also greet people politely when visiting homes and recite prayers for those who donated at the end of the Mamakiah process. Mamakiah is an indication of a harmonious relationship between the santri and the community. The relationship is expected to be maintained so that the educational process of the students can continue.
